Testing Center

Collin College Testing Centers serve as test sites for the CLEP (College Level Examination Program). If you want to use your CLEP exam for courses here at Collin College, please review the accepted tests in the table lower on this page. Not all CLEP exams are accepted for credit at Collin College.

NOTE: You must be TSI complete through testing or an exemption before CLEP exams can be applied to your transcript or used as a pre-requisite override.

Follow the steps below to schedule your CLEP examination at one of our campus testing center locations.

Step 1: You will register and pay for a CLEP exam at http://clep.collegeboard.org/started.  The College Board charges $90 for each CLEP examination. You will create an account, pay College Board for the exam fee, and print out a voucher for the test on this site.

NOTE: Collin College ONLY accepts the College Composition Modular exam for English credit at Collin College. Students can take the College Composition test for another college at one of our testing centers, but if you want to use the exam for credit at Collin College, you must choose the College Composition Modular exam.

Step 2: Select a campus testing center location below by clicking on the campus link. You will be sent to a new page and asked to select a time to take your exam. You will then pay a $15 administration fee directly to Collin College. Print out your receipt and bring it with you to the testing center location.

CLEP examinations are given by appointment only. The CLEP sitting fee is non-refundable. You may reschedule one time with no charge.

Book your appointment via the following link (availability is limited):

Note: CLEP exams will not be available at the Frisco or Plano Campus Testing Centers May 15-June 2. Please choose a different campus testing center if you need to take a CLEP exam during this time.

Additional Information:

  • A photo ID is required for all CLEP testing.  Your primary ID must be government-issued and include your name, signature, and a recognizable photograph.  The second ID may be any official ID containing your name and signature and/or photograph.  There are NO exceptions on the forms of ID that can be used.
  • A student does not have to be currently enrolled at Collin College to take a CLEP exam.
  • Exam scores may be sent to any institution that the student requests. Each institution determines its own policies regarding CLEP examinations, required scores, and credit given. The student is responsible for contacting the receiving institution to determine what exams are accepted.  We highly recommend you do this prior to signing up for a CLEP exam. CLEP exam fees and refunds are determined by the College Board. The CLEP sitting fee is non-refundable. You may reschedule one time at no charge.
  • An unofficial score report will be available upon the completion of most CLEP exams.  Official scores will be sent to the test-taker and the school of choice in approximately 2 (two) weeks.
  • A waiting period of 3 months is required to retake any CLEP exam.
  • Please see the list of CLEP Subject Examinations accepted by Collin College toward the bottom of this page.

The Collin College Registrar's Office certifies credit earned on CLEP Subject Examinations with a score at or above the minimum score for credit (see table below).  For CLEP credit to be certified at Collin, a student must have successfully completed a course at Collin within the last 12 months and have at least three (3) semester credit hours from Collin College.

Note: Credit earned by examination may not be earned in any course for which the student has previously received a grade, either at this institution or elsewhere (grades of 'F' and 'W' are included). A course must be dropped before the census date to avoid a grade of 'W'.

Listed below are the CLEP Subject Examinations in which a student may receive credit at Collin. Examinations are 90-minute multiple choice objective tests.

*The Subject Examination in College Composition Modular also has a 90-minute essay section, which is required by some colleges. Students must check with the institution they are planning to attend for its requirements. Collin requires the essay section. If the essay section is attempted for credit at Collin, the score will be weighted as follows:

  • Essay section:   70 percent
  • Multiple-choice: 30 percent

The CLEP Code Number for Collin is 2290.
