April 14, 2022 Collin College District President Dr. Neil Matkin will remain at Collin College for the foreseeable future. The Collin College Board of Trustees approved a three-year contract extension for Dr. Matkin during the board meeting on March 22.
The third president in the colleges history, Dr. Matkin assumed the role on April 6, 2015. Collin College has experienced tremendous growth and expansion under Dr. Matkins leadership.
The Board is pleased with the direction of Collin College and credits much of the colleges success in recent years to Dr. Matkins leadership and the team he has brought together, said Board Chair Andy Hardin. This contract extension is a reflection of his commitment to Collin College and the Boards belief in his vision for the districts future.
Since his arrival, Dr. Matkin oversaw the construction of new campuses and multiple academic facilities as well as major renovations of existing campuses, with more to come. Under his leadership, the college expanded its workforce programs and he also helped lead the charge for Collin College to offer baccalaureate degrees. The college received approval from Gov. Greg Abbott in 2017 allowing certain community colleges to offer four-year degrees. In 2020, Collin College began to offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Bachelor of Applied Technology in Cybersecurity. The college will offer its third baccalaureate degree, a Bachelor of Applied Science in Construction Management, this fall.
Collin College serves more than 56,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degrees and certificates, including a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), a Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT) in Cybersecurity,and a newBachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Construction Management to be offered beginning fall 2022.The only public college based in Collin County, Collin College is a partner to business, government and industry, providing customized training and workforce development.
