Collin College Dedicates Fred N. Moses Student Services Center At Collin College Plano Campus

Collin College honored the life and legacy of former Board of Trustees member Fred N. Moses with the dedication of the Fred N. Moses Student Services Center at the Plano Campus on Sept. 25.

College leaders, members of the Moses family, community leaders, and guests gathered for the ceremony recognizing Moses’ longstanding commitment to education, service, and the Collin County community. The newly named student-centered space is located within a renovated section of the Plano Campus.

“The recognition being bestowed today honors Fred Moses’ amazing contributions to Collin College and his impact well beyond his passing. He was a beloved family and community leader who touched many people,” said Collin College District President Dr. Neil Matkin.

Moses served on the Collin College Board of Trustees from 2017-23 and was the first African American elected to serve on the Board. He also served on the Collin College Foundation Board from 2017-25. Moses and his late wife, Mazzie, were recognized as Collin College Living Legends in 2006 for their contributions to Collin County and embodiment of the college’s Core Values.

During the dedication, Moses’ daughter, Michelle Moses Meeks, reflected on her father’s belief in education and the opportunities it creates for students.

“My father believed in the power of education. He understood that college is more than classrooms and buildings. It is a place where lives are changed, dreams are developed, doors are opened, and future leaders are prepared to serve their community,” Meeks stated.

Moses’ commitment to service extended throughout the Plano community. He founded and chaired the Plano Community Forum and held leadership roles with the Plano Chamber of Commerce, Plano Economic Development Board, and Plano Community Home. His work helped expand representation and opportunities for minority businesses and community members throughout the region.

The dedication of the Fred N. Moses Student Services Center connects his legacy of education, service, and opportunity with future generations of Collin College students.

Collin College serves more than 62,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 200 degrees and certificates, including a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), a Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT) in Cybersecurity, a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Construction Management, a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Clinical Operations Management, and a new Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT) in Software Development.
