Financial aid, including grants, scholarships, and loans can be used to cover the cost of books.
It depends on which veterans program the student is part of.
- Chapter 31 (Veteran Readiness & Employment): Yes. Books are covered directly under this program.
- Chapters 30, 35, and 1606: No. The VA does not pay Collin College directly for tuition or books under these chapters. Students must secure financial aid or set up a payment plan to cover costs, and this must be completed before the semester payment deadline.
- Chapter 33: The VA does not directly cover book charges. Instead, eligible students receive a book stipend based on enrolled credit hours. If certified at least 30 days before the start of the term (and if the VA is processing on schedule), the stipend is typically deposited about three business days before classes begin. Because the VA does not pay Collin College directly, students must either cover book costs upfront or choose to purchase books on their own. They may also use financial aid or set up a payment plan to manage any out-of-pocket expenses until the stipend is received.
