Tax Exemptions

Homestead Exemption

As of 2023, the Collin College Board of Trustees approved a new residential tax exemption rate and formalized the change by adopting a resolution notifying the Collin County Central Appraisal District.

Collin County homeowners qualify for a reduction in taxes from the new exemption rate. The exemption is equal to the greater of $5,000 or a 20% exemption of the appraised value of a residential homestead.

Over 65 Exemption

  • The Board of Trustees also approved property tax exemptions of $100,000 for residents over 65 years of age or disabled individuals.

Delaying Implementation Increases Construction Costs

Delaying implementation of the bond program exposes Collin College to escalating construction costs, which are estimated to increase the total cost of the proposed bond projects by an additional 8% or approximately $48 million per year.

Ballot Language For College Propositions

  • Ballot language will include the statement "THIS IS A TAX INCREASE."
  • Sample Ballot:
    • THIS IS A TAX INCREASE; the issuance of $600,000,000 in bonds for college facilities used for workforce training, career and technical education, and academic instruction, and the levying of taxes sufficient to pay the principal and interest on the bonds.
