Medical Screener

Course Description


This course will provide medical, health, and wellness screening related skills training for Licensed Vocational Nurses, Medical Assistants, Phlebotomist, Certified Nurse Aides, and Patient Care Technicians who are in good licensure and/or certification standing. Student learners will receive advanced hands-on training in patient assessments, patient health history, vital signs, hearing and vision screening, laboratory usage and set up, blood collection, laboratory testing, statistics, and reporting. Training prepares student completers to work in various medical/health screening facilities, hospitals, health departments, community events, and health fairs with a fast pace and large patient volume.

 

Learning Objectives

 

1.     Demonstrate proficiency in patient assessments and health and medical screening examinations.

2.    Perform laboratory diagnostic testing and operate laboratory equipment.

3.     Demonstrate proficiency in blood collection and perform laboratory testing and processing.

4.    Demonstrate proficiency in medical terminology and pharmacology. Demonstrate effective use of electronic and paper medical records.

5.     Demonstrate the ability provide health and medical screening services in a high volume and fast paced environment.

6.     Assist health providers with various medical services and procedures.

7.     Describe and align with OSHA and HIPAA guidelines.
