The Physical Therapist Assistant Program is a 2-year program over six semesters that includes classroom, lab, and clinical education opportunities to obtain the foundation, knowledge, and technical experience needed as a physical therapist assistant. Upon graduation, the student will receive an Associate of Applied Science in Physical Therapist Assistant. The Program has been approved by The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
MISSION STATEMENT - PTA PROGRAM
The mission of the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program is to prepare graduates through a contemporary curriculum to obtain the skills and character to positively affect their community as entry-level physical therapist assistants working under the direction and supervision of a licensed physical therapist.
PTA PROGRAM GOALS
The PTA Program will:
- Contribute to the local healthcare workforce by developing entry-level physical therapist assistants able to work under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist in diverse and challenging environments
- Develop graduates who provide ethical, legal, and professional care with integrity and character to positively impact the profession and community they serve.
- Provide experienced and dedicated faculty to promote client-centered, contemporary, evidence-based, and productive learning environments to produce skilled and competent entry-level physical therapist assistants.
- Advocate for cultural diversity, professional development, community service, and personal growth by students, graduates, and faculty.
- Provide a curriculum that promotes effective communication, intercollaborative teamwork, knowledge-seeking, problem-solving, and critical thinking to enhance the future success of the entry-level physical therapist assistant graduate.
