Standard Emergency Procedures

LockdownLOCKDOWN: Avoid, Deny, or Defend

You will receive this notice if there is an intruder with a weapon or the threat of another type of violence on campus.

ACTIONS (Depending on your personal situation and location)
AVOID – go to a safer location, if that is an option
DENY – get out of sight, remain quiet; lock doors when possible
•DEFEND – confronted with the violence, collaborate with others to distract the intruder and get away or defend yourselves                    
•Warn others and call 972.578.5555 if you have information for the Police        
•Wait for campus officials to notify you when to return to normal activities

ShelterSEEK SHELTER: Find a safe place in a building

Outdoor warning sirens sound to signal there is severe weather or environmental danger outside

•Go Inside a building, to bathrooms or interior halls of the lowest level, away from glass doors and windows
•Monitor one or more media sources      
•Wait for campus officials to notify you when to return to normal activities


EVACUATE: Leave the building immediately

Indoor alarms sound or strobe lights flash to signal there is a danger inside or near the building, such as fire

•Go Outside the building; assist those who are disabled      
•Take valuables and cell phone with you                                                   
•Assembly outside as directed, 100 feet from the building                             
Notify Emergency crews if you suspect someone is still in the building          
•Wait for campus officials to notify you when to return to normal activities.


Medical Emergencies

• Dial 911 for medical emergencies
• Call Campus Police at 972.578.5555; give your name, the location of the emergency and the type of emergency.
• If the injury or illness occurs in the fitness center, also notify fitness center staff.

Automated External Defibrillators (AED) are in various locations on each campus. While on campus, make yourself aware of AED locations.

• Cafeteria: Plano and Frisco
• Police offices & patrol vehicles: All campuses
• Fitness center: Plano, Frisco, and McKinney,
• Information desk: Plano, Frisco, McKinney, CHEC
• Science lab: Plano, Frisco, McKinney, and Courtyard
• Conference center: Plano, Frisco, McKinney

Criminal Activity

  1. Call Campus Police at 972.578.5555; give your name, location of the incident and type of activity.
  2. Give a phone number where you may be contacted for further information.
  3. Dial 911 if instructed by Campus Police.
  4. Do not attempt to interfere with the activity, except in the case of self-defense or self-preservation.


  1. If you receive a threatening phone call you should:
  2. Remain calm and obtain as much information as possible from the caller.
  3. Ask the caller questions such as location of the threat, type of threat and time for the incident.
  4. Call Campus Police at 972.578.5555 give your name, location, type of threat and phone number where you may be contacted.
  5. Officials will contact you for further information.

Collin College Police Emergency Response

The department is a key element in area emergency management. Due to the College District's high profile in the community, the department maintains close ties to the Collin County Department of Homeland Security as well as each municipal agency in the county. Officers with the Collin College Police Department are trained to be first level responders and coordinate these efforts with other local agencies. The department also takes a proactive approach to help prevent crimes. Efforts such as enhanced patrols and strict enforcement of parking restrictions aid in ensuring a safe environment.
