Texas All-Star Jazz Camp

June 26-30, 2023

Each Summer, Collin College hosts the Texas All-Star Jazz Camp, open to musicians of all levels (minimum age 13). 

The curriculum includes jazz theory, improvisation, jazz history/listening, instrumental masterclasses on saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, and drums, and ensembles (big bands and combos). Jazz camp faculty include members of the Collin College Music Department as well as jazz performers and educators from across the country. Each year, a special featured guest artist is invited to perform and teach at the camp.  This year's guest is guitarist Nir Felder.

Public concerts include the jazz camp faculty (Wednesday), featured guest artist (Thursday), and student ensembles (Friday).

Fees (includes t-shirt)
Tuition: $300
Meal plan: $50 (lunch daily)

Need-based scholarships available on a case-by-case basis 
If you'd like to be considered for a need-based scholarship, please email the director (PWeise@collin.edu); with your answers to the following questions (do not register at this time):
   How would winning a scholarship affect your future goals? 
   Do you have or have you had any personal or family circumstances affecting your financial situation? 
   Will you be able to attend the camp if you do not receive a scholarship?

Performance-Based Scholarships
A limited number of performance-based scholarships are offered. If you'd like to be considered for a performance-based scholarship, please email PWeise@collin.edu (do not register at this time) with a link to a short video of yourself performing an improvised jazz solo on the tune of your choice. Please put "scholarship request" in the subject line of your email. 

Registration Policies 
Full payment is due at the time of registration.
Full refunds will be made up to May 1.
Between May 2 and June 1, refunds will be made less a $200 processing fee.
After June 1, no further registration refunds will be made.
If a student is dismissed from the camp for violating its policies or rules, no refund will be made.

Typical Daily Schedule
8:30 a.m. – Jazz Theory
9:30 a.m. – Ensembles, Sectionals, Jazz History/Listening
11 a.m. – Improvisation
Noon – Lunch
1 p.m. – Instrumental Masterclasses/Guest Artist Masterclass
2 p.m. – Ensembles, Sectionals, Jazz History/Listening
3:30 p.m. – Daily classes end
7 p.m. – Evening concerts
