FERPA

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

FERPA Brochure - The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act is the guiding force behind the provision of privacy to student records. There are many opportunities to obtain information regarding this Act and your rights and responsibilities as an employee of Collin College.

The brochures are also available through the registrar's office, and in all Advising offices across the district.

FERPA Exceptions - According to FERPA law, other than directory information, no information concerning a student's records can be released without written permission from the student. There are some exceptions, however, and this document lists them.

Directory Information - Unless a statement of non-disclosure is on file for a student, directory information can be released without written permission. This page contains a list of what Collin College considers to be directory information.
